Lampwork...lots of hours on the torch

Thursday, May 31, 2007
I've been spending lots of hours on the torch. I never knew just how much trouble a large burn could cause. I lost some range of motion in a couple of my fingers. I should of gotten some PT (physical therapy) but it's better.

Here's a new set, it looks great in person. I did have a bit of trouble with the photography with this set though. They will make some great some wonderful accent beads.

This is an interesting set...great with causal clothes. I can see these made into a bracelet.
Other than being on the torch for hours everyday, I'm not doing much. I haven't been on the computer much but I'm still here. Hopefully, I will start working on my list of customs this weekend. I didn't want to start the customs until my hand was working like it should. :-)
If you have requested a custom from me and wondering when you will receive them, contact me. But I'm currently starting on the list.
Have a happy, creative day!!!!

More Lampwork

Saturday, May 26, 2007
The below are all lampwork sets that I finally got pictures of. All are pre-burn. :-) I've been on the torch a lot the last couple of days but I'm still not up to snuff compared to before I burned my hand. I have the impression that it's going to take me another week or so.

The above is my favorite...I actually made me a small set to work with.

Ok...that's it for me today. I've got lots and lots to do today.
Have a great holiday weekend!

More lampwork bead set and Future work

Wednesday, May 23, 2007
I've got a sink full of beads to clean, a pile of beads to divide up into sets, and another huge pile on my desk. I've been busy trying to get back in the swing of things. My hand if much better but now it itches like the devil. The main reason why I haven't been on the forums or on the computer is that I'm working on a new series and trying to figure out another style of beads. I'm getting a bit bored with my typical 'chaos' style beads. I have to admit, they are wonderful to design jewelry with. There's enough color to either stand alone or be mixed with accents or wire.

I really like the some of the more a modern painters as an inspiration. The only thing is that where the bead has large color blocks, great for jewelry design; they are boring to make at the torch. Coming up with a balance between visually interesting and anti-boredom hasn't been easy. I'm think that I might go back to making dot beads...I still remember my 'Larry Scott' class that I took many years ago. At least take a break for a week or so.

There's pics of my same ol' design of chaos style beads....
As many of you know, I've cut back on ebay auctions. (BTW, the above set will be up on ebay this Thurs eve.) It's giving me time to play at the torch and make beads for myself. Sometime this weekend, I will get some pictures of some of the jewelry that I'm back to making.

Now off to the torch...

Have a happy, creative day!

New Lampwork...Strangefellows

Sunday, May 20, 2007
I'm still around, I've been back on the torch. My hand is healing and I'm getting caught up on a few things.

Here's a set that I got pictures of...Strangefellows.

I’ve used spot reduction on the glass to achieve interesting reaction. The glass is a mixture of reduction glasses with silver. Each bead is unique in design as the individuals that will be wearing these beauties. They look a lot better when you click the pic to enlarge. They will go well with a lot of natural stones.

As you can tell by the name of these beady dudes, I’ve been reading Simon R. Green’s series. It’s about tales from the Nightside. It’s a bit warped but very funny. Kinda like Mayberry does Twilight Zone sort of humor.
I've got to get pics of my day at the silver bench...I guess it's like riding a bike.
Have a great rest of your weekend!

I'm back!! New Ebay Sets....

Thursday, May 17, 2007
I'm back in the saddle again...kinda. Having a full 2nd degree burn on your right hand sucks. It would of been so bad except that it was the entire top of my hand. I mostly read, watched movies, and shopped on eBay.

I didn't realized just how much it impairs daily life to have an hand injured. It was hard getting dressed, doing laundry was a major undertaking, and forget about cleaning. Every cleaning solution burns...every little bump made me cuss up a blue even was a challenge to sleep the night without waking myself up. Now since I'm feeling a bit better, I've to to clean the house, go grocery shopping, and so all the little things that didn't get done.

I was at my silver bench yesterday, the results are currently tumbling. I didn't realize just how much I missed metal. If they turn out ok...I will get some pics. If they don't turn won't see the pieces. :-)

Well I'm also back on eBay...the below is a set (Dreamscape) that will be up starting this evening. It's a lovely set...Swirling, twirling, and tumbling color marks this bead set. The depth in these beads are sensational but hard to capture with a digital camera. I’ve double and triple encased many of the extra large sprees. If I dreamed in color, I’d dream these beads.

The below is is Painted Desert. People and colors are much a like in some ways…opposites do attract. The hues reflect the desert, sand and sky. The large buttons are a glorious shape to work with. They have a large amount of canvas yet are sleek and comfortable to wear.
That's it for me...I've got to get lots of errands done today and MAYBE get on the torch. We'll see but it will be either today or tomorrow that I'm making beads again.

Have a happy, creative day!

All is quite here...

Wednesday, May 09, 2007
Here's the last of the mini series that I finally got pics of:

Just thought I'd check in to say, 'Howdy'. I'm been off the torch for a couple of days because of a burn. It seems that I might of burnt the back of my hand enough that I'm not going to be making beads for a week or so.

I was pulling some twisties and was more focused on the glass than the flame. I ran my right hand though the flame. At 1700 plus degrees, it pretty much sizzled the skin. Even showering and typing stings so I'll be reading, doing some cleaning, maybe even some beading.
Have a wonderful day!

Spot Reduction...Peaceful Easy Feeling III

Sunday, May 06, 2007
I bet you are getting tired of this mini series. :-) BUT I have to say that this set was a minor miracle to photograph. Yet it still looks much better in hand. I will put this up on eBay next Thursday...the normally scheduled auction events.

Other than that, I spent the day on the torch doing experiments.

Have a wonderful weekend...

Peaceful Easy Feeling II...cutting back a bit.

Saturday, May 05, 2007
Sorry that I haven't been posting as much as normal. I've been cutting back on computer time. The slice of the time pie is only so big and something has got to give. So this has been one of them.

The other thing I've got to do is cut back on is eBay. I'm spending soooooo much time on auctions that I'm neglecting my website. Plus the shipping costs and ebay fees have raised...not to mention PayPal fees plus all the other costs of doing business. :-) Then there is the time involved...don't even doesn't make sense to me either. I was going to add ETSY but between customs, ebay, and my website...I'm just out of time. I've got at handful of customs to complete and than I will take a breather from them for a couple of weeks.

I don't know how long I will cut back...maybe be a month...or maybe the rest of the year. I don't know yet. I think maybe part of my burnout is that this is the time of the year I loved the most...the beginning of show season. Which I'm not doing any shows here in it's depressing. Totally depressing. Doing shows is how my business started out and I miss them.

I'm not cutting back on making beads really...I'm just getting ready to keep a lot of them for myself. I have kept some but not enough to work up many of my jewelry designs. Which are mostly sketched out but now I've got to gather up the beads I all the other pieces and parts to complete them.

Above and below are pics of "Peaceful Easy Feeling II". I have to admit, these are pretty and they took me forever to complete. This set, in my mind, was to be very busy/detailed yet easy to design with.
The below is a pic of the full set...

That's it for me today...I'm off to work on another beady design.

Have a happy, creative day!

New Mandrel Size...Purple Phase

Wednesday, May 02, 2007
I got into a purple phase…all the beads had to have purple in them. I don’t know why; maybe it’s my Twilight Zone sort of humor.

The the donut beads have large holes, great for ribbon, Greek cord, most fiber, or wire. This is the size mandrel that I use for some of my wire bangles or neck pieces.

That's it for me....I'm off to do errands.

Have a happy, creative day!

Drive By....Summer Herbs

Tuesday, May 01, 2007
Just a quick drive by not to let ya'll know I'm still alive and kicking, just busy. It's another, be careful what you wish for days. I've gotten myself buried in customs again. :-) I'm not Muse it. I've been working a bunch of different shapes and designs. That's all.
This set is called "Summer Herbs"....

...Patchouli, mint, and ginger are some of my favorite herbal scents. I mixed up a batch of glass beads that resemble my herbal candles. The hues will mix well in most jewelry designs, from natural stones to mixed media.
I'm off, I'm at the torch today making some beads for me. Actually, it's experimentation day. I have no idea if it's going to be a good bead day or not...I'll know tomorrow when I open up the kiln. :-)
Have a great day!

Peaceful Easy Feeling...Lampwork Beads

There’s something peaceful to walking into my studio and flipping on some jams. Then sit down behind the torch while the Eagles are crooning their magic. I try to take a day or two a week to melt glass for myself. This set is the result of one of those days. Rarely does anyone get the see the results…I normally keep the beads. This time I've got several sets (which is a total understatement, I did keep a bunch for me) that will be popping up on eBay in the next couple of weeks. Some of the 'peaceful' series sets are small and some are large, like below.

That's it for me...I've had a day of dueling kilns. Two packed full kilns has totally made me bead-dead for the day.

Have a great day!
