Thank You!!! Plus an introduction...MOUSE!

I want to thank everyone for their cards, words of encouragement, and phone calls. Grief is one of life's bumps but a needed one. It makes one value the simple pleasures of life.

Yesterday evening, my hubby and I decided to merge from our cave. We went out to dinner and to pick up some 'stuff' for the cats. So after dinner, it was a trip to Pet Smart. Ya know, all the 'stuff' that kitties need...kitty litter, food, and a bit of catnip. Nox had grown so much that we had to breakdown and purchase an extra-extra large litter box. It was to the point that he was backing into the litter box because he couldn't turn around in it. It was really very sad (but humorous) to watch. So with all our kitty geared purchases in tow...I spotted her....

Over dinner, Bob and I were just talking about our kitty problem....Bob and I were undecided what to do. We knew that we were going to have to get an addition to the family soon. Nox (the big ol' Texas bubba kitty) wasn't letting me sleep since Cheslie passed away. He played with Yarrow and chased Cheslie's tail. It gave Nox something to do while I was in the studio. Sugie (the toothless-old as dirt-Siamese) will play a couple minutes or so until she's had enough of Nox. Sooooo...I became his new play toy. Then when I decided enough was enough...Nox became desperate enough to use Bob as the new play toy. Well...let me tell you, that Bob really, really isn't play toy material. Nox got a bit of a surprise and then a bit miffed when Bob would not do what he wanted him to do.

Well, you see that she is lovely. She's a rescued Oriental Shorthair from P.A.W.S.. It's a no kill shelter in Kyle, Texas. She's a bit less than two years old, had a litter of kittens that have all been adopted, weighs about 6 pounds, and has a lovely shade of blue grey with patches of peach.

Anyway, we picked up another cart and gathered up a carrier plus a kitty condo. Bob was saying that is she was going to live in our closet/dressing room for the next month...he'd rather she claw her condo than his suits. He did have a point there. It will take about a month of her living in there (don't worry, it's larger than our bedroom...has four nice windows...several comfortable kitty areas...with lots and lots of soft clothes for her to play on)

She's a bit timid and hand shy...it seems that she has been abused...but she's already found her purr box. She's also a bit skinny but that's already changing.

Right now, Nox and Sugie are both camped out by the closed door. No hissing yet but...it's bound to happen. It will take about a month before everyone makes nice. Ah...the way of cats.

Just to let everyone one know...I'm back on the torch again. Hopefully you will be seeing to new and interesting beads from me.

Ok...back to the torch with me...

Thank you everyone!!!! Have a happy, creative day!

Cheslie

Monday, August 20, 2007
Saturday (8-18) was a terrible day. We woke up to Cheslie panting and we couldn't calm her down. We thought one of the storms may of upset her. Anyway, after a hour of trying to calm her down...Bob rushed her to the doggie ER.
The doc did an O2 sat and it was down to the low 80's so they put her on O2. Thinking that it may of been some sort of lung infection, they took a chest X-ray. Cheslie's entire one lung was a cancer mass with many smaller sized masses. Well, to make a long story short...we made the decision to put Cheslie to sleep.

It was like losing a friend, she had been with me though my first marriage, my divorce, meeting Bob, marrying Bob, and moving to Texas. I never thought just how much I would miss her until I was sitting on the deck having my coffee. She was always there, doing her doggie thang. It's the simple things that make me miss her.

Sooz and Belvedere Beads thank you for your comments!!!!! Thank you to all you other folks that sent me emails! It seems that the number of beads I put in a set are a bit too many for some and just right for other. Soooo....I'll be mixing it up the numbers.

If anyone has a chance, take a peep at tartz blog. I mean these bottle cap pendants are totally FAB!!!!!! While I was waiting for a phone call, I was blog surfing. I had forgotten how much fun surfing is. :-)

If you all decide to make your own bottle cap pendants...great for memory necklaces or bracelets...you can pick up the resin at Ornamentea. They even have some awesome collage bezels.

That's it for me...I'm off to make some large hole disks.

Have a happy, creative day!

What do ya think? New Lampwork...again!

Tuesday, August 14, 2007
I've been experimenting on lampwork bead set sizes...actually the number of beads. The below set is ten sprees and one focal. Is this enough (Hey you...jewelry designers)? It's enough for me but I normally use a lot of wire, seed beads, or gemstones with my pieces.

The below is a bit larger...but is it too large or too small in number?
I'll be putting these up this week sometime on eBay.

Ok...I'm just about done with all the bagging and tagging of gemstones. I will be soooooooooooo glad when I'm done. In the long haul, the design cage will be the best design tool that I'll have. I wish I would of done it years ago. It's kinda hard to visualize to I'll take a pic when it's done.

Also has anybody been working with bronzite? I just got some in...the stone is totally fab.

Ok...I'm off to my cage. :-)

Have a happy, creative day!

Studio Visitor and New Lampwork Beads

Monday, August 13, 2007
I was busy in the studio and heard a odd sound outside. Low and behold...this is the site that greated me. Odd looking visitor don't ya think.
Here's what he looks like when he's just hangin' out and watching for toads. Don't let his photo size mislead you...he's huge. With his wings extended, he's a good 3 plus feet.
It's been really hot here. With the torch and kiln running, I've been having troubles keeping my studio cool. I did manage to make the below set. It's called MINE...because I claimed it first to make some jewelry. :-)
Well, that's it for today...I'm off to the studio before it gets too hot out there.

Have a happy, creative day!!!!

New Lampwork Bead Set...New Jewelry Designs...Whatsup

Friday, August 10, 2007
Here's my Thursday eBay auction that I put up last night. I've got a couple more that I need to process. Those will be 3-Day auctions.

The below was kewl to torch. Every once in a while, I need a bit of a change. I've been doing sooooooooo much 96 coe/reduction glasses for this new series, I was beginning to get burned out. So I pulled out the enamels. It's hues are in ivory, purple, cobalt, sky blue, dark periwinkle and various enamels. They look so much better in person...it's really hard to get all the fine details and color variations in a photo.

As I've been chatting about for a while, I've been working on some jewelry designs. I had to take the time and sit down to make some chainbacks. (those of the wonderful little sterling thingies that make bracelets and necklaces adjustable) While I was there, I worked up another idea I had for a jewelry line that I want to do. I like lampwork and gemstones but...ya know, sometimes it's just nice to have a simple and more classic piece of jewelry. Kinda like a favorite pair of jeans, something that goes with everything.
Here's another bracelet pattern that I've been working on too. (this is also the reason why I need more chainbacks) The base of the design is made from cubes...they make up into a very, very stable back for beadwork jewelry. Then I also use some of the new Delica 10/0's. LOVE the 10/0's. They work up quick but the main reason is that the bead hole is larger so that I can reinforce the ends. That makes a bracelet like this much more Timex (takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'). Which makes a huge difference to me. I have a life time guarantee on my work so I work very hard to come up with designs that will take the wear and tear of daily wear.
Here's also a new pattern I've been work on too. They are very comfortable yet dramatic earrings. You'll be seeing much more of this style.
That's it for the pictures today. I'm still working on the design cage...BUT I'm making progress. I also have been working on some more lampwork ideas...most of which you will NEVER see here. They were pulled from the mandrels and were given a quite burial. I will have some pics soon of the ideas that have some merit.

OK...that's it for today. I'm off to do some errands!

BEAD ON!

New Lampwork Series...what's been happenin'!

Wednesday, August 08, 2007
Remember when I said I was working on a new series? Well here’s some of the pieces so far. There’s still lots more beads that I haven’t gotten photos of. The lampwork bead disks are the focals of the bead strands. The finished jewelry pieces will have lots and lots of gems stones as well…with some wire…with some complex beadwork. Maybe even some chainmaille. I haven’t decided yet. These will not be up on my website or on eBay. If you feel the need to possess any of these types of beads, let me know. The lampwork bead strands will be available by custom order only.

The new lampwork series is named Alchemy. It's the mix of fire and metals. Actually, Bob, my hubby coined the name.

The above and below disks are large. They actually fill the palm of my hand. Both are much nicer in person than in the pic. The metal highlights are hard to capture in a photo. Well, they are for me. :-)
The below disk has been spot reduced (most have) but it's easier to see in this photo.

The below is a nugget strand. I think these will make up into some lovely bracelets.

There's an example of how they might look as a necklace. It's only temp strung on some waxed linen cord...so that I can store it.

Here's some accent beads...lots more of these that I haven't taken pics of.
More disks...I've been kinda busy...with a small strand of flatties. I really, really like the flatties...they make up into a lovely bracelets. They are light and comfortable to wear yet are dramatic in designs.

That's all the pictures for right now.
I've been also working on cleaning and re-organizing the studio. This wasn't supposed to be a huge change BUT it has turned into a monster. I decided that I wanted to be able to see the gemstones I was going to work with. SO I now have a design cage. I'll have pictures soon...it's not done yet. I've still got a couple more days (afternoons) of bagging and tagging.
Thank all of you that either left comments on my blog or PM'ed me!!!! You folks are wonderful!!!!!
Have a happy, creative day!

Gemstones and Lampwork...well, I've been shoppin'!

Friday, August 03, 2007
I've been working on my studio, actually I'm just beginning the project. Hopefully, it will be clean, re-arranged, and organized by Monday. Well...that's the plan. :-) The reality might be something different but I'm giving it a try.

I've been telling you that I've been working on lampwork bead sets that work well with gemstones...plus been in the drawing phase of several different jewelry designs. So I took a good inventory of my gemstones and it wasn't lookin' good. I've got plenty of ocean jasper, garnet, amethyst, quartz crystal, peridot, petrified wood, obsidian, opal, tourmaline, zeolite, sugilite, sunstone, jade, lapis...and the list goes on. BUT there's lots of new stones out there like bronzite, crab fire agate, fossil coral agate, new shades of amazoniten, new faceted stones, lots of new types of briolettes, new shades of turquoise, and lot of other kewl stones.

So I've been shoppin'...notice the copper. Yeppers, I normally only do sterling and fine silver but I'm beginning to think about adding copper. I used to do gold but I really don't like working with it. It melts differently than silver...I think I'm just so focused on silver that I don't like anything else.

There's also a lot of new Swarovski colors of crystals out there. So I've been picking up small qualities to see what hues I like. There's also a lot of new shades of seed beads that I don't have in my stash.

I think what intrigues me the most about the gemstones is the different shapes! Plus the carved stones!!!!!!
Anyway, I've got a bunch of new pearls, amber, jet, and MOP strands coming in. I'm working on large jewelry pieces but want them light enough to wear.

The new lampwork series is coming alone very, very well. I'll get pictures soon. It's all done in metals, transparents, lots of encasements, and reduction glasses. Spot reduction and spot encasement intrigue me. It adds depth to the beads.

I'm really excited to get the pearls in, I think that's what I want to mix with some of these beads. There's lots of huge disks that I made that will be used as focal pieces.

OK...back to work with me!

BEAD ON!

Ebay Auctions for this Week!

Wednesday, August 01, 2007
I haven't been around much...I've been working on a new series. I'll have pictures later. I've also been out shopping...a lot. Remember when I said I was in the process of working on new jewelry lines? Well, the process has begun and it's feels WONDERFUL!!!! I'll post updates soon. I've got most of the reduction/iris beads made. Now the designing begins. Well, that's after I get my studio clean and re-organized. The place is a total pit. We had some HVAC work done a while ago and the opening to the attic is in my beading studio. Well...talk about a MESS! I've got dust on everything. I also had to move things around. Actually I just piled them up in the corners, on tables, and various other hiding places. Bad move, now I've got to clean everything up. I can't stand to work in a dirty-messy studio.

Other than that, I've got a few auctions up on eBay currently. Taaa-daaa...here they are:

Here recently, I haven’t made too many bead sets in my chaos style. I just had to do one. Sometimes I just get the itch. The above is called Dali II. I had a great time working on these.

The above will start tomorrow evening...it's called Growl. :-)
Above...Dali I...This is the ‘sister’ set to a nuggets up for auction this week. These beads are large hole beads made on a 1/8th sized mandrel. Just the right size for earrings, bangles, neckpieces, or on chain.
These (above) look so much nicer in person...I liked them well enough to make myself a set.

Well that's it for me...I'll try not to make it so long next time.

BEAD ON!
