Tried Again...

Friday, September 28, 2007
The below is one of my lampwork and seed bead fringed bracelets. I really liked out colors turned out went it was finished.
Here's another's design is much like the one from yesterday.
The fringe is from 5/0 triangle seed beads. The cab is black onyx and one of Bob's cut cabs. All-in-all, I was pleased with the final piece.

My morning was productive but my afternoon was spent at the car dealership. We were there so long that we just went out for dinner. It was just easier. By the time we got home, I was ready for snooze land.
Funny, as I get older...I need sleep. I didn't used to be like that. :-) I could run on almost nothing. of the trade offs for getting older. Getting older does have it's advantages though. I'm calmer and don't worry as much. Most things work themselves out in time. Which is an odd thought. Now that I'm getting older and have less time on this Earth, I understand that time takes care of most situations. :-) I used to care a small bit of what I, I don't. Don't get me wrong, I work very hard to be polite and well mannered but I say my piece. If that doesn't work, I take the next step. Either walk away or call my attorney (which is a rare recourse for me because most issues just aren't worth the pick your battles). I don't see the advantage of focusing on a situation that either I am unable or unwilling to change. Change happens in small bits at a time with a major change being the accumulation of many small changes.
There used to be a time in my life that I spent a lot of my time working with orgs such at PETA and many of the environmental nonprofits. Activism has it's pros and it's good for the soul but it came a time, that my heart just wasn't into it any longer. Too bad, I was actually good at it...well I was good at getting a point across to the people who can make changes. It might of been that my life situation changed or my opinions weren't in line with the orgs I was working with. Thinking back on it, we (the orgs and I) had some of the same goals but we didn't have the same 'ways' of getting things done. I still make my calls and write my elected officials when a issue arises. If I don't make my opinion known to them...well just how can they make a decision for me. They can't...geez, I actually think that even if they know, they vote the way big business wants them to or along party lines . The whole party line thang totally gets to me...just where does our elected officials loyalty lie? With their voters or their party? The answer makes me think that our the American system is tatters. Not to say that it isn't one of the best in the world at this time. It just has one basic fault. It relies on elected political officials with a conscious. The good ol'boy system is going to the wayside because the American people have discovered that THEY are the final opinion. THEY have the right to ask why and demand the facts. THEY even has the right to demand accountability. Our private sector can be held accountable, why not our elected officials? The age of information is in the process of changing our country as well as the world. The next decade will be an interesting one. Well...that's enough philosophising from me. Everyone has their own life to live and their own opinions. That's what makes this world so interesting.
I've got a couple more things in my life to get moving back to the the next year. Once those few things are done, it might be time to go back to some of the grassroot orgs again.
Today, I've got lots of little things to get done in the studio. I pulled out the beads from the kiln yesterday...even got them off the mandrel. Now I really need to clean them. I worked on a graduated encased set that is black based. They look very spiffy!! I've got a handful of silk ribbon and lampwork necklaces laid out on my desk that need to be put together. I really need to sit down at the mini torch and do some chain backs for bracelets. Mmmm...I think I'm going to make a few beads and Zen out for a bit on the torch.
I've haven't been on eBay much nor have I had many website updates. I've been keeping my lampwork beads and doing lots of customs. The problem now is that I have so many beads, I don't have a desk any longer. :-)
Have a happy, creative day!

New Necklace Design...Maybe? Maybe not?

Thursday, September 27, 2007
The below is a new necklace design that I'm working on. I haven't decided if I like it or not. It's pretty on and the hues in this necklace blend together well. I can already tell that if the hues aren't in sink, the design could get out of control rather quickly. :-) I used mostly Czech instead of cut crystal. That keeps the shinny aspect down and the cost. So it doesn't look like you are wearing a strand of X-mas lights around your neck since the tones are muted and a bit less shinny. Plus it doesn't break the checkbook. :-)

Don't get me wrong, I like cut crystal, both Swarovski and Austrian, but...not always. Sometimes too much of a good thing is just too much of a good thing. :-)

Here's another view taken in natural sunlight...

That's all I got...this puppie took a while to make. It's all the twisting for the fringe.
Other than that, we pick up my new car this evening. less thing taken care of before we move. Plus it's getting to the time of the year in Texas, that weekend trips are fun. It isn't so hot in Oct and Nov that I feel like I'm melting. So will be out and about next month.
That's it for today...I've got an overflowing kiln of new beads. More organic encasements!!!!
Have a happy, creative day!

More pics

Here's lots of earring eye candy. I've still got lots more pics to take of earrings. They seems to be the largest pile. I normally make at least two pairs per bracelet or necklace. Beats me why but it my habit. Then sometimes I just make earrings. Speaking of earrings...I do make my own earring hooks and even have a large pile of them BUT I keep reaching for the pre-made french hooks. They are my pref to wear unless it's the long oval ones that I make. Anyone else like that?

The below is one of those pairs that I was looking at my desk at the bits and bobs sitting there. Eureka...they were born.

Here's a necklace and earrings combo...nothing special but easy to wear and looks great on. Thanks everyone for the birthday greetings!!!! I really didn't have much time to celebrate. Bob and I tried to catch Mouse for her vet appointment. Someone must have treated here very badly before she came to live with us. Anyway, she didn't get to the vet and we have another appointment on Saturday. We did have a long convo with Dr. Tracey...she gave us some tips. Normally I don't have a problem getting a kitty in a carrier but Mouse is terrified.

After that...I went sock shopping. Yep, you read it correct...SOCKS. :-) While we out and about, Bob decided he wanted to look at new cars. So we went car shopping. He looked and I test drove. I test drove an Expedition...I didn't like it much. Too big. Then came the Taurus drove OK but it didn't have the space to do shows. Then the Edge...way too small and I really didn't like it much. Then came the Explorer...ooooo, it liked it. We were getting somewhere.

Then it was off the the Mercury-Lincoln we were talkin'. I really like the Mercury Mountaineer. The Lincoln MKX was very nice but a bit pricey for what I was willing to spend. Today Bob is going to take another peep at the Mountaineer and see if the dealership can find what we are looking for. It's got to have a tow package for the trailer (shows) and I prefer cloth seats. Leather looks great but I don't like it in summer or mid winter, even if it has heated seats.

Ok...that's it for me...I've got to check the kiln. I did get a few beads made yesterday evening. I had to do test beads. I made a couple test blends that I was planning to use today.

Have a happy, creative day!

New Lampwork Jewelry

Tuesday, September 25, 2007
Yeppers....more pics. The below is a simple bracelet of chain maille and lampwork. Lots of color but not overwhelming. It matches the below (bottom pic) necklace.
Yesterday, I was chatting about liking the more simpler bracelets. Here's another example. It still has visual drama without being busy. The beads are my lampwork and bronzite with lots of silver.
The below is a black and white (duh, like you can't see the pic or something) fringe bracelet. Again, my lampwork beads and seed bead fringe.

The below is another one of my cube seed beaded bracelets, just in another color. I like'll be seen more later. It's a timex (takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin') design. It looks much more impressive on than in the pic.
Lately I've been seeing lots of 'vintage' design styles out in jewelry land. Which I like but I'm not fond of base metals (except for a touch of copper here and there). Most of the base metals make me itch and turn my skin green. :-) So I'm workin' on styles that have the look but don't have the itch. Also I prefer designs that can last many seasons of fashion changes. Beadwork has that timeless feminine appeal that never goes out of style. So you will be seeing much more designs of beadwork in the coming months.
Here's the necklace that matches the first bracelet. Lots of color...lots of visual interest without being busy.
Well that's it for the picture show. Yesterday's beads turned out wonderful! I've got them 'bowled' on my designed desk. (these are MINE, all MINE :-)) Most of the beads that I've been making the last couple of months are just beginning to show up in my designs. That's one reason why I don't think I will fully give up lampwork. I need beads.
Yesterday afternoon, I spent on the little torch (silver). It was a smooth evening of working with silver again. All the goodies (chain, bracelets, earring components, and pendant components) are in the tumbler right now. Which I've got to go check on.
Today is my birthday so I'm takin' it easy today. (Yeah right...that's after I take the cat to the vet, clean the kitchen, pick up my glass area, and maybe go look at new cars.)
Have a happy, creative day!

Different View...more jewelry pictures

Monday, September 24, 2007
I've been working on different types of lighting...different types of positions for my photography. It isn't enough anymore just to be a beadmaker, a designer, and I need to be a photographer and work on my MBA. I'm kidding about the MBA...I've got enough education for the time being. Now I have to figure out how to use it in real life.

The above necklace pic has been back lit and taken inside. The below was taken in natural sunlight. (BTW, I've got several of these type of waterfall necklaces on my desk...I just need to add all the accent more pics soon.)
Here's a closeup taken inside.
The earrings were laid flat, instead of my normal hanging style pic.

Inside & back lit...

Outside in natural sunlight...

I bet you are getting the idea by now. :-)
I know that the above bracelet and earrings aren't my normally busy work BUT I'm making several of them. I like them. Why you's because they work so well with so many of the clothing that I'm seeing. Just how much color can one wear at one time. Since I've started doing some sewing, I've found that busy jewelry and busy clothing don't work well together. Actually it's a bit humorous when I looked in the mirror. The eye can't focus on anyone thing so I felt like I was blurry. If that makes any sense.
Ok...time to go see what's in the kiln. I've got a huge pile of beads I made yesterday. I just never know what you will find in there. I'm hoping that I've got several small sets that will make into silk ribbon necklaces. Wish me luck...IT'S KILN TIME! sewing projects are coming along. Once I get something finished, I'll let you know.
Have a happy, creative day!

New Jewelry

Sunday, September 23, 2007
Today was picture day...I've still got lots to process but here's a taste of what I've been doing.
The above earrings look massive but are actually very light on the ears. The dragon scale turquoise beads are lentils and they aren't thick. Love the look with the new bronzite that's out right now.
I've lighten up the weight of the necklace by using hollow copper beads...along with the lampwork and natural stones.

That's it for tonight. I'm bushed, I'm off to do a bit of reading before my appointment with snoozeland.
Beady Dreams!

What I've been doing! Mouse update & more lampwork beads

Saturday, September 22, 2007
Bob has been home for the past couple of weeks so we have been hanging out together. We’ve been playing with Mouse most of the time. Which is working out since she’s beginning to bond to us. The only problem is…we started playing with her by wiggling our toes under the quilt. Now, every evening she wants to attack the wiggle monster under the covers. Which is fine BUT she also attacks the ‘wiggle monster’ during the middle of the night…in the morning…just about anytime something moves. All-in-all, Mouse is doing well and adapting to our family.

I’ve been out shopping…I need clothes. I haven’t been mega shopping for several years. I was running out of t-shirts, PJs, undies, even jeans. It was getting to the point that I was going to start going naked at the torch. (Remember the burn? Well, that taught me a few lessons so rest assured, I won’t be doing torch work naked.)

I was very, very uninspired while shopping at most of the department stores. Most of the clothes either are for young women or working folks. Then the clothes that are supposed to be for causal middle-aged women…well, I wasn’t impressed with the styles. Nor was I impressed with fits. I was looking for comfortable yet clothing that reflect my lifestyle. So I decided to get back to basics…decent fitting jeans, comfortable shoes (birks as usual), and basic t-shirts. Can I say BORING!!!!!!

Then I found my sewing machine. So lets see if I can come up with comfortable yet artistic clothing. My imagination has been waking up my Muses. The fabric stores has opened up even more possibilities. So sewing is what I’ll be doing the next couple of weeks. It seems I’ve found a new hobby.

Here's what else I've been doing. I've been making accent beads for my jewelry designs. Where I enjoying making the more complex beads I really don't like them in most of my jewelry. Sometimes I do but...not here lately. I've been focused on making encased organic beads. Yeah, I know, that's not my norm. These beads look great with my sterling large link chains. The below beads look totally wonderful in person. I'm thinkin' that I might have to make something for myself with these babies.

Here's a pic of my bead bowl... Have a happy, creative day!

Just about done with the update....

Thursday, September 13, 2007
The below lampwork bead set will be up on eBay later this evening. I'm going back to my typical Thursday update. Bob has been working on the Etsy store...right not there's not much up yet. :-) Give me a bit, that's next week's project.

I've got a handful more of bead sets to write up and add to the website. It was just so beautiful yesterday to spend it in the office. I took mucho breaks to enjoy the weather.

Anyway...I finished up about 30 or so sets...some of you were pretty quick on the draw. I will finish up on the last handful, send out a newsletter, and when start packing up the beady dudes.

Break over for me...I'm off to start my day!

Have a happy, creative day!

More update.

Wednesday, September 12, 2007
Hey Folks...just a bit of an update to get my blog reads a heads up. I'm in the process of uploading some of the smaller bead sets on my website. I'll be working on them off and on the rest of the day. It's just so lovely outside, I will be taking frequent breaks. :-) I will sent out a newsletter when everything is up loaded. next project is a ETSY store. I decided to go ahead and do one.

BTW...the bathroom is still orange. I figure it will wait until Bob starts a new out of town contract. :-)

Have a happy, beady day!

Holy Goddess of the Crapper

Many of you know, my hubby travels a great deal. For the last week and this week, he's been home...well, working at home in the office. Today, he decided to help me out and do a bit of cleaning. He's normally pretty good about helping out...he's a better cook than I am and even does laundry once in a while. I have no complains.

Today, he must of gotten really, really bored. He decided to clean the bathroom. I came in from the studio and smelled bleach. So I investigated. To my surprise, he was cleaning the tile walls in the bathroom. We have a deep walled tub that is oversized and a PITA to crawl into. (BUT it is the most wonderful tub for a bubble bath) It takes four normal sized shower curtains to surround the damn thing. When I say oversized, I ain't kidding. It could be swimming pool for short people. Anyway, it's a nice sized bath that is entirely in white tile with little blue accents. It was a rather peaceful and calming bathroom. Key word here is WAS.

I took another break and decided to look in again. (Side note here...Bob and I have been married for over ten years and this is the FIRST time that he has ever cleaned a bathroom. I was kinda pleased...actually I was totally amazed. )

Low and behold...I saw it....he decided to change out the shower curtains. HOLY GODDESS OF THE calm, peaceful bathroom turned into the Great Pumpkin on acid. That's what happens when you put up four screaming ORANGE shower curtains up in one bathroom. (My question is...where did he find them???)

One look and I went back out to the studio. (where the bathroom is purple) I'm on the torch thinking about it....I'm telling myself, it couldn't be that bad. I like orange and the shower curtains were transparent. Just how orange could it be?

So I went in for another peek. When the sun sets, light pours into the bathroom....there is an orange glow about the room now. If the door is open, you can actually see the glow from down the hall. seems that I was drifting in the river of denial. It's really that bad.

Mmmmm....there must be some sort of hidden moral to the story here. If you find it, please be sure to let me know. :-)

Have a happy, ORANGE day!

Monday, September 10, 2007
I did get some torch time in's been a photo festival here. No matter how hard I work at the photos, the beads just don't seem to look as good as they do in the hand. Oh well, it seems that some times a picture isn't worth a thousand words. :-)

The below are veiled Gaffer disks...great for earrings and as accent beads in jewelry designs.

That's enough pictures for today! Now it's all the writing for the website update.
Have a happy, creative day!

New Jewelry...Necklaces

Sunday, September 09, 2007
I've been working with some of the disks that I've made. The below is one of the pieces that I've came up with.
What I like about this piece is that it has visual interest BUT it is rather light weight. It's is a mix of stringing, beadwork, and my lampwork. There's just something about ocean jasper, yellow, turquoise, and amber that makes me think of fall.
The below is a necklace designed in turquoise, hollow sterling beads, and one of my lampwork focals.
I liked the focal so much...that I made a handful more of them in bright hues. I'll be working with them soon.
Well that's it for this evening...I'm back to the studio!

Have a happy creative day!

I'm up date coming...lots of new beads!

Saturday, September 08, 2007
Hello Folks!

I’m back! I’ve been enjoying my time on the torch and working on some new jewelry designs. I just haven’t felt like sitting that the computer much. The pups normally spent their time under my desk in the office sooooo…I’ve been working on being places that don’t remind me so much of the both of them.

Mouse, the new kitty addition, is doing well. She was FINALLY cleared to hang out with the other two cats last week. She had a few health issues...the kind that I really didn't want to exposure the other furballs to. So far, everyone seems to either be getting along well or at least, tolerating each other. It’s been an easy transition to the family.

I’m back up on ebay this week…I took a couple weeks off. Thought it might be time that I returned.

I have also been working on a website up date. Here’s a few of the sets that will be up on the website sometime this coming week.

Well...that's it for tonight...I'm off to finish a book this evening. Have a wonderful weekend!
