Lots of Lampwork Beads...Bowls of Beads!

Friday, October 26, 2007
I've been doing lots of torch work instead of ....setting up my Etsy store...doing laundry...making jewelry...I even turned down going to a bead show! The weather here in Austin is just PERFECT to be on the torch. I'm just lovin' it. That's the up side...

The down side is that I have so many beads right now that I'm becoming overwhelmed with bead bowls. The above bowl has lots of beady dudes that have been encased with reduction and reactive frits. I have been experimenting with my own frit recipes. These look MUCHO nicer in person than in the pic. I've still got to divide them up into smaller sets.
There's another bead these beady babies turned out really nice. This is one of Bead Goodies' frits called Turquoise Rain. I made all sorts of sizes of rondrells...they accent coral, turquoise, and yellow jade very well. I'm keeping some of these babies for myself.

The above is another Bead Goodies frit called Botanica. There's a shade of green that I couldn't get the photo so show that goes well with some of the limer (if that's a word) shades of stones. These are itty bitty sized for earrings. The above is one of my custom frit mixes...actually it a bunch of frit that I dropped on my desk by accident. That I scopped up and added some more frit then made beads. These too are encased and are mucho nicer in person. The middle strand was made on 1/8th sized mandrels.
The below is a 32mm lentil focal made with Double Helix silvered glasses. I really enjoy using the silver glasses but they sure are a PITA to photograph.

Here's a 32mm flat focal.
Here's a focal that I again, my encasements look much better in person. Does any of you have any photo tips for me regarding encasements? They seem to be my photo downfall.'s beautiful and I'm off to the studio!!!!!!
Have a happy, creative day!

Lampwork Beads...goodbye eBay!

Sunday, October 21, 2007
These sets have been waiting to go up on eBay for a couple of weeks now. I just never got around to it. So they will be listed this evening and will be running for 3 days.

I know that the above picture isn't that great but these beads turned out GREAT. I might be a bit bias because it's one of my favorite color combos. :-)

All the auctions will be starting out at $.99 and will have free shipping.
Next week is to have an ETSY store up and functioning. OK...I'm off to the torch. I've been sitting in front of the computer way too long.

Have a happy, beady day!

Another piece of lampwork jewerly

This is a quickie's a rare day here in Texas. It's misty and COOL. When I say cool, I bet it won't get above 85 degrees! Perfect for torch work in my studio!!!!!!!!

The below is a newer design that I've been playing with. Well, not really the design...but the type of focal bead. Most of the beads I make are designed to hang swing style instead of a strung pendant. So I'm getting with the program.

I've got a couple in the kiln I'm off to a bit of breakfast and to clean some beads. THEN it's torch time!!!

Have a happy, creative day!

Lots of new lampwork beads!

Monday, October 15, 2007
Howdy Everyone...

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend. Just to let you know that all the orders from the website and customs have been spend out by Saturday. You should be receiving your beady dudes soon. There's not much let in the lampwork section of my website. Thank you everyone...I hope to see you on Etsy.

I am accepting customs again, starting next week. I will also be placing a couple sets up on eBay. I've got the all the pics and write ups done within my eBay template sooo....I thought what the hell since they are ready to go. Then after will be very rare that I do eBay again.

I've been working on lots of new encasements...smaller sets that can be used within jewelry designs.

Here's another example of my older style of 'chaos beads' that you used to see a lot of. I recently started making them again. They are the perfect style to mix and match natural gem stones with. You will be seeing a lot of this style again. The below is an example of one of my companion sets. This set is one of the more simpler ones. The base is a pale gray and the spacer beads have add silver on top. The focal has been encased after I applied silver and a small amount of baking soda. That's were the bubbles come from. :-) I like this type of style because they give visual interest to a necklace when I use mainly gemstones. Plus I was having problems in finding kewl accents to add to gems like smokey quartz and dragon scale turquoise.

The below couple of sets are more companion set but from my "Neato" series.

Here's a strand of "Neato" beads...just wonderful brights with lots of earring pairs. Brights of my last for the season. Fall is just beginning here in Texas. Well the leaves and acorns are falling but it's still in the high 80's during the day. :-)
Well that's it for today...I'm off to the eye doctor. Gotta get my peepers check!
Have a happy, creative day!

Lampwork bead Sale and a move to Etsy

Thursday, October 11, 2007
I'm in the process of working on an Etsy store and will send out an update as soon as it is presentable. Mostly likely it will be next week.

So for the good news. My lazy self really doesn't feel like moving over the lampwork bead sets from the website to Etsy. Just a note about my new Etsy store, I will not be able to include free shipping. The new shipping rates have thrown a bit of a curve my way. I will keep free shipping on my website though.

SO....all lampwork is 30% off and includes free shipping for any order over $15. I will send out a newsletter tomorrow but my blog readers can have first dibs today.

Just a reminder, that I add my eBay auctions whenever I feel like it now, which is rare. :-)

Ok, I'm off to the studio. I've been working hard at the torch and have piles of beads to clean. I am not kidding here...I've got LOTS of new beads coming your way.

Have a happy, creative day!

What's been happenin'...lots of new lampwork jewelry pieces

Tuesday, October 09, 2007
I took a bit of a vacation from my computer screen. I spent the time in the studio, getting some things done around the house, and playing with the kitties. BTW Mouse is doing well. We finally got her to the vet for her last set of shots sooooooo...she's now one of the family.

Remember when I wrote that I was going to get some of the silk ribbon necklaces done. Well I did and I got some pictures.

The above is the close up of the lampwork and beads on the necklace. The below is the entire necklace. It is 36 inches in length and adjustable.

I liked how all the silk ribbon necklaces worked up. I also liked making them so you will be seeing more of them in the future. I made a few for myself as well. They just look great with just about everything.
The below is simple necklace...easy to wear...goes with just about everything too. I've been spending a little bit of time at the silver torch. I'd spend more but most of my silversmithing tools are packed and I'm not bothering to unpacking them now. I figure we will be moving in spring.'s a necklace. The pictures suck but it's looks lovely on. The drape of the piece was tailored to be worn on a real life neck.

Here's a simple necklace with one of my lampwork focals.

There's another necklace with one of my lampwork focals....I have to admit that this piece is one of my favorites. The focal is made from one of the silvered glasses out there now. I am just not good enough of a photographer to grab on to all the hues and iris tones of the glass.

Well that's end of the picture show...I've got lots and lots of beads that I will get pictures of soon. Currently I've got just about every mandrel I own with a bead on it. I just haven't felt like cleaning beads. Ya know, I'm gonna be real sorry that I did this. I like being on the torch, love opening the kiln the next day, but I hate cleaning beads. I have over a week's worth of torch sessions to clean. So instead of doing a little every day...I will spend one entire day on the dremel and my hands in bead poop.

Besides all of that...what I've been listening to while I've been on the torch has been The Mists of Avalon. I've read the book many moons ago but listening to the audio is totally fab. I'm a member of Recorded Books Unlimited I do listen to a lot of books. :-) I'm not a fan of TV and there's really too much noise to listen to music so I've turned into an audio book addict.
Does anyone else listen to audio books while they work? If so, any recommendations? So far I've been listening to mostly Diana Gabaldon's Outlander series or Elizabeth Peter's Amelia Peabody series. The problem is that sometimes I don't get the books in order. :-) So what I'm now looking for is single books so that it doesn't really make a diff in what order I listen to them.
Well...that's it for me. Hopefully I will get all my beads cleaned so I have pictures soon! I've also got several wire designs drawn out so hopefully you will see some of those finished pieces.
Same bat time...same bat place...have a great week!

New Lampwork Focals and Jewelry

Monday, October 01, 2007
I've been meaning to get some of the silk ribbon necklaces done. The below focal beads have already been made into pendents. Now all I have to do is finish up the necklaces.

Here's one of the silk ribbon necklaces that have a large hole lampwork bead and a disk. These work up totally fab. They can be dressed up or down. Look great with a basic dress but go well with jeans too.
The necklace is adjustable because I've added slider beads at the end of the ribbon. I'm thinking that this necklace is going to find it's way into my collection. I really like silk ribbon necklaces. They go well with turtlenecks in the winter but they also look great with t-shirts (ya know Texas weather and all). They also are great for folks that have metal allergies. Even though I normally only work with sterling or fine silver, there are folks out there that can't wear any metal.

Well, that's the end of the show for today. I've got a kiln full of beads that I've got to get cleaned.
Have a happy, creative day!
