Lampwork Beads Sets...Gearing up to Re-open

Thursday, August 28, 2008
I've been getting all the pictures together...getting all the organization set back up to open up my Etsy shop. I keep betting sucked back to sitting in front of the torch. I've still got a mound of beads to clean...actually it's now grown into a couple of mounds of beads.

The above is a small strand, just right for a bracelet.
The above is barrels! These turned out lovely. Lots of visual action...lots of color...lots of fun.
The above are larger barrels...just right for a necklace focal strand. I've been experimenting with designing jewelry from larger barrels. They look great as accents within a multi strand necklace. One with lots of seed beads, stone, and silver.

Sorry my posts have been sooooo short and sweet...I've just been busy. It seems that once I get one project completed, I've got 10 more on my list.

Have a happy, creative day!

More Pictures of Lampwork

Tuesday, August 26, 2008
Ok...Here's some new pictures...the below is an experiment in photography.

All I've been doing is gearing up for opening up the Etsy shop. One of the things that I forgot...I had to find all the shipping stuff. I am pleased to say that I have a shipping area in the guest bedroom. Miracles of all miracles...I found everything.

Ok...back to work for me. I'm on the torch this evening playing with raku.

Have a happy, creative day!

Morning Sunshine...on Lampwork Beads

Sunday, August 24, 2008
Ya know, I've got to get my photography stuff set up. The morning sun makes the beads look washed out. No amount of playing in my photo software made them look good. These beads are much more vibrant in the hand.

Today...I'm back on the torch. I've got mounds of beads to get clean BUT I've got an idea that I want to work on. If I wait, I might lose the concept. Which happens when I get busy.

OK...time for me to get busy. I hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend!!!!

Comfort Beads

Saturday, August 23, 2008
Some of my favorite beads are plain frit encasements. I really can't tell you why either...there's on one reason. I think it's the color and the enjoyment I get from making them.
The above are kinda small but just the right size for a bracelet. Today I'm working on the larger encasements with lots of detail. Mmmmm...maybe some sky nuggets too. The sky nugget shape is like a barrel with facets. Those beads are totally fab as accents in a jewelry design.

Ok...this is a drive by post...I plan to spend the day at the torch and of course, get some beads cleaned.

Have a wonderful weekend!!!!

More Lampwork always

Thursday, August 21, 2008
I've been thinking about how designers use beads. I know that there are certain shapes that I like to work with in wire...some I like for bracelets...other I'm always looking for if I'm in a necklace mood. So I've come up with an idea...certainly not a new one but a new one for me.

I've kept the same color scheme but in different shapes.
These are the shape and sizes that I use in a bracelet or a wire necklace. The are easy to work and design with (for me).
What do ya think?

Anyway...that was my biggie for today. I just pulled some beads from the kiln. I'm good with them but I haven't decide to make them 'series' beads or not. beads to clean...ick, my lest fav chore.

Have a happy, creative day!

New Lampwork...working on my photos!

Wednesday, August 20, 2008
As many of you know, (those that have listened to my whine), photography is one of my greatest challenges. So I just take the pics outside. It seems to be the best lighting that shows the truest colors. Now, I've decided that I might need even more improvement. It was always sunny in's not here.

Yeah, I've got the lights and EZ cube...even an underlight thingie. The issue is I really don't know how to work my camera. So, I'm looking for a digital photography class so if anyone knows of one here in my local area, give me a shout.

The above is a design change for me. These are smaller, flatter sprees that are highly detailed but work well in bracelet designs. I've been working on mostly bracelet beads here lately.

Anyway...this is a drive by post...I'm working on a new series. Well, maybe...that's if these test beads turn out well. If not, back to the drawing board. BTW, I like series. It gives me a chance to put an idea to the limit. Anybody else feel like that?

Have a happy, creative day!

Kiln Fairy must like Lampwork!!!

Tuesday, August 19, 2008
The kiln fairy has been kind to me...

I really like how these sets turned out. I can picture them made into bracelets with wire and stones. You know how I am about mixing several different elements into jewelry designs. :-) I'm beginning to find that I prefer rondells or barrels within my designs. Don't know why, it just seems to work that way right now.
Here again...I'm going to miss some of the colors in these sets. They are some of the 104 COE odd lots from Italy. Geez...just when I find glass that I like to work with, it's gone. Oh well, there's lots of glass out there!!!!! lots to do today and I'm trying for a double session at the torch today.

Have a happy, creative day!!!

Hey thanks Ladies for the welcome back!!! hubby is currently in Austin on business, so I've heard the weather is totally fab there right now. :-) (I miss Austin...sign)

Jeanine...yeppers, I'd love to see what you've been up to!!!!!! I love peeping at other folks' creations.

Have a wonderful day...I'm back to the torch!

Out shopping...lots of new lampwork sets

Here lately, I've been doing lots of shopping for the house. When we moved, we really didn't take much with us from Texas. Well, that not totally true...we took the studios and lots of books. When you have to move something 1100 miles, it kinda makes ya think before you pack it. So I've been out and about looking for some of the simple things like coffee cups...pillows...window coverings. So during my shopping trips, I have been looking at clothing as well. It's been a while since I've seen snow or needed any type of coat. OMG...I found sweaters and turtlenecks...chenille sweaters are my favorite. I picked up a chocolate brown and an odd blue one the last time I was shopping...two of my favorite pottery hues. That's what inspired the below bead sets.

There's a lot of details to the beads...I wanted them to have a 'pottery' favor to them. More organic yet have a strand flow to them.

To get the blending of hues and the ‘pottery’ favor that I wanted in these sets…I had to use several different types of glass. If the bead is 96 COE, then the entire bead is 96. If the bead base is 104 COE, then the entire bead is 104. Many of the colors are also hand mixed. I know, my OCD is acting up. I needed a huge amount of different colors but most of them were very similar to each other. I had to rely on some color reactions, silver, and placement in the flame to get the right shade I was looking for.
The below are of my favorite shapes for bracelets. You will be seeing this shape a lot from me. I like the visual burst of colors but...I've been doing more wire jewelry lately and it's the shape that seems to just flow into the pieces.
I've got mounds of beads to clean which I've got to get done. It seems the more beads I make, the more beady chores I have. :-)

As I said yesterday, I will be taking another week or so off of Etsy. I'm thinkin' that late next week I will re-open the shop. You ask why I'm waiting so long...well, it takes a great deal of time to get everything posted, all the photos, all the the shipping. All the business stuff has to be done but I've also been spending time playing with the glass. There's a "Zen" to just flipping on the torch and making beads just for the pleasure of making beads.

I told myself, if I ever got into the situation that I was making beads solely to sell beads, I'd stop making beads. I'd then go back to metal. I did that once when I was a potter. It got to the point that I no longer enjoyed the creative process so I moved back to jewelry. So far, I haven't ever been bored or production geared with beadmaking. There's always something that sparks me.

Anyway, I'm off to the studio...the torch is calling my name!!!

Have a happy, creative day!

I'm Back!

Sunday, August 17, 2008
It's been a while! I've been rather busy with getting the house and the studios in order. A lot of my equipment didn't take the move well. So I've been having to replace much of it...and wait...and wait until it arrives.

We finally got the AC and heat in the studio...I now have the garage for all the glass and all the new electrical work that needed to be done. I keep each kiln on it's own separate 20 AMP breaker so we had to lay out the studio then call someone in to do all the wiring. Then take care of the breaker box.

Anyway, I've been back up on the torch....

The above is a new bracelet series that I'm working on. Just in time for fall!!!!
It's been wonderful not dealing with all the paperwork side of the business. I'm going to take a couple more weeks off of Etsy....more so that I can just create on my own schedule. I haven't really had the time for this type of glass melting for several years so I'm going to hog it up. More because I'm in the middle of a bit of a style change regarding my beads. Plus I'm also in the process of working on a business partnership with another artist. More about that later!
Anyway, I will have more pictures for ya tomorrow. Right now I hear my torch calling me.
Have a happy, creative day!
