This is kinda of a drive by post....

I couldn't sleep in like I wanted...I've got airport duty this morning. So I uploaded two beady sets on Etsy.

Now I'm off for some more java, to drop off Bob at the airport...then it's off to the studio. Yeah, it is a bit early for me to start up the torch but hey, why not.

May the beady force be with you!

MMJ Lampwork-Silver on Silver Series-Illusion (10)

Friday, January 15, 2010

OK...I've not been computer had a bad day. It's sounded like a blow dryer. The Dell man finally showed up and fixed the issues.

Then the hot water heater wouldn't make hot water. That was an expensive call to the plumber.

So life is better...I've got hot water and my computer is working. Hey!

Now for the eye candy, one of the sets from the Silver on Silver Series. Now I'm going back to get beady dudes uploaded on Etsy.

Have a great weekend!

New Lampwork...Silver on Silver

Sunday, January 10, 2010
I've been kinda stuck on this idea for a while...I make some beads a while ago that involved silvered glass with fine silver. They turned out OK. Then I revisited the concept a couple times after that....very very little success. They just didn't have the 'look' I wanted. So I tried it again (pics from yesterday), I finally got on the right track.

Then I pulled these from the kiln...yep, that's what I was looking for.
It's the shape that did it for me...barrel work great with gemstones.  The color combo did it, I just have to come up with more. :-)  Isn't that the norm for me?

Why are the fuss?  Well, a couple of days ago...I sat down and did a rough estimate of how many beads I've made from 2000-2009.  The number was unreal...anyway, it was time I came up with something different. It makes me want to go into the studio and work.  Certain types of designs and glass push me to create.  Silvered glass does it for does color.  So this is the direction I want to take for a little while.

I feel a series coming on...

Have a happy, creative day!

Lampwork Beads...New Sets

Saturday, January 09, 2010

I stayed home AGAIN yesterday.  I told myself I needed to work on my photograph skills.  Which is true and it really was a good excuse to not go out in the snow.

Anyway...I've decided that the hard thing about beady photography is making sure that the colors of the bead set are the same in the pictures.  If I didn't have to do that...I think I'd be OK. LoL.  I am finding that certain backgrounds will change the tone of beads.  So I've been working on that whole angle as well.  The above and below are the same set...the colors are true tones...but the different backgrounds do make a bit of a difference.

The below was an experiment...silvered glasses with fine silver.  I liked how they turned out, and they do look much better in hand than in the picture.

Here's another one of the silver on silver sets.  I will be doing more of these...they would combo well with natural stones and metals.

I've been working in glass for almost 10 years now...before that and during, I did make clay beads.  I was wondering just how many bead sets I've made.  Then I got thinking...maybe I just don't want to know. :-)  It is sometimes hard to come up with something new and different day after day.  That's also why I do a lot of mini series...everyonce in a while, I find something that just zings me.  I figure if it zings me, the jaded beady maker that I am, it will zing somebody else.  Right now, I'm on mission of making beads that mix well with natural stones.  Then I'm figuring I'll move one to brights for a while.

Time to get my day started...I'm off to the studio, I'm going to brave the snow and cold!

Later Gators!

Quite Day Yesterday...Cat Pictures...Studio Set Up

Friday, January 08, 2010
It snowed yesterday...which really isn't a big deal in most part of the country but in Indiana, it kinda is.  We don't get many snows there and when we do, it's chaos.  I think it's more that we aren't prepared for is like we used to be...we just don't get enough to warrent buying that many snowplows.  So the Stumpps stayed home.  Bob, was and still is glued to his EZ chair in front of the fireplace.  He's got his laptop in front of him and his Blue Ant glued to his ear.  He just moved his home office to infront of the fireplace.  Here I thought I was bad.    Then we have the cats...

Below is Sugie...toothless, old, and sometimes cranky...still asleep in bed.

Here is Nox...sleeping while I'm trying to make the bed...yep, that's him on his back.

When we have Mouse...she was sleeping someplace but I couldn't find her.  Here's her trying to help me out in my project room.

I've had a couple people ask me my 'studio' set up. I have 30ft by 17ft studio at the Murphy Art Center in Fountain Square.  It's packed full of glass and my lampworking stuff, several kilns, all my wire stuff, most of my seed beads, all my silversmithing stuff like the anvils and hammers, several different torches, and you name.  It even have a large storage area that all my show displays are boxed up.  Then I also have a mini show area that wholesalers and customers can come in so that the can view what they are buying.   I do have a computer there and ok DSL.  I can't up load pictures fast enough there to do much work.

I also have a mini home studio, which is all over the house.  I kept a home office, one room that I use for photography, plus the garage has a kiln that I use for PMC, and my project room.   Here's a picture of my 'project' room at home.  It's almost totally without keeps me from being distracted when I'm working on something. I don't have much in it, I use it mostly for bring home a project.  When I'm done...I clean it up and move to something else that I'm working on.  Right now, I'm playing with seed beads again.

Here's how I spend my day off...

Hopefully today, I will get in the mood to do some photography of beady dudes.  I've got a pile on my desk that needs to find homes.  So I might be uploading on Etsy today...or I might hunker down in front of the fireplace.

Have a happy, creative day!

Happy New Year!

Friday, January 01, 2010
This is a short and sweet post...

May the beady force be with you!  translation...I wish everyone a happy, creative, and joyful 2010!

Now I'm off to the studio today.  I know, I's a holiday but it seems that I might be having an open studio today.  Sounds odd huh?  I was told that the Murphy is closed on Jan 1st.  Well, First Fridays (open studio tours) are ran by an organization called IDADA.  Their website and ads in Nuvo have advertised First Friday for today.  Surprise....sooooo....I'm off to the studio to clean up a bit.

Just another heads up...I will be uploading on Etsy tomorrow.

Later Gator!
