Selective Saturation...Photography...chores

Friday, November 30, 2012
Today is a chore day so I'm going to miss Fine Art Friday, again. It's just been one of those days.  Mostly it's because I'm working is a studio that is a tad bit too small for all the stuff I have stuffed into it. Now wasn't that a mouth full of a sentence?

I've been working on selective saturation and photography, more for a series of art cards. My biggest issue with art cards is that most times it's such a hassle to mat.  I'm working on a way that the card comes pre matted note card. It's still in the experimental stages but I'm getting close...almost there.  It's keeping the cards bright and multi occasion plus at a price that doesn't make somebody hack up a hairball.

Izzy has turned into the studio/office cat.  She has several places that are HER 'spots' that we are fighting over.  She's a rather large kitty that has fine, floaty hair...well, I think I've said enough there.  You got the add paint. Yeah, this has been an ongoing test of wills on both our parts.

Now...I've gotta get some more work done. So everyone have a wonderful weekend!

Bird Studies…gearing up for a new mixed media series

Tuesday, November 27, 2012
This is the time of the year that I gather up all the photos to sketch during winter.  I try to do this several times a year.  More so now because of some of the Christmas 'stuff' and before the snow sets in. Going out in the muck and cold takes a lot of my creativity away.  I'm just funny that way.
Sooooo...I'm thinking that you can guess on a series that I'm gearing up for...LoL  Don't get me wrong, I really enjoy cats but sometimes I also need a few divisions.

Ok...back to work with me.  I finally broke down and brought a copy of Autodesk SketchBook Pro 6.  So it's time to learn the software.  More on that later...

Hoosier Artisan Boutique...from a shopper and artist

Monday, November 26, 2012
Saturday, 11/24/12, Bob and I dropped in at the Hoosier Artisan Boutique.  The show was held at Hamilton County Fairgrounds in Noblesville, Indiana.  It’s a small show but a well-rounded show, with lots of different items.  The 65 artisans were all from Indiana, a major plus in my book. They had some Christmas themed items, lots of gift items, and some fine art as well.  All in all, a great show to shop at for the holidays.  It has great parking and it was easy to find…what more could a shopper ask for.

I walked by Elizabeth Wamsley's booth...I love pottery....
Lovely booth, the setup displayed her work very well but the below is what caught my eye. The only reason why I didn't walk out with them is because we are currently deciding if we are adding on to the house or moving.  I just can't justify buying more pottery if I have to pack and move it. If you are interested in her work, she's on Facebook!!!
I caught Bob, my hubby, in another booth.  Mixed media artist, Sharon Tesser, has the most wonderful and unique work. Bob picked up some of her fabric bowls to go inside his baskets. When he gets a couple made, I'll post pics.

Sharon also had a lovely display...her work can be found on her website. I am very impressed with her work...she is just starting the show journey and in the years to come, she's gonna be a major hitter on the trail.'s a great show for shopping!!!

I also ran into a couple people that I love their is Claudia Lord.  If you get a chance, peek into her Etsy shop...she does very unique photographic fine art.

The other artist was Sabrina Verkamp, lettering artist. She created uber fabulous  hand painted glasses, ornaments and unity candles..that can be personalized.  Wonderful for those special happenings like weddings!!  She has an Etsy shop and website.

Ok...I'm off to get my own work done...

Test post from my iPhone

Sunday, November 25, 2012
This is a piece of digital mixed media that has been created on my iPad...then sent to my iPhone. Mostly because I'm trying to figure out if the blogger app works or not.

If I don't get a Bluetooth keyboard, this posting from iPhone won't be happening often. :-)

Frog studies...the beginning of the artistic process, the photography

I’m sharing a bit of the creative process with you.  It all started with seeing a frog in my garden, on one of the last warm days of the season.  It’s was Thanksgiving Day of all days.  Poof…I thought wouldn’t be kewl to do a frog series.  I rush upstairs and grab the camera then spent the rest of the afternoon with Mr. Frog.  I took hundreds of photos. Not all of them are visually wonderful, but each of the below has something that I'm look for.  It might only be the position of the head.
I then posted one of the photos on Facebook and poof, another artist friend Steven Keller helped me out.  His brother, Geoff Keller and artist, helped by letting us know that it’s Eastern Gray Tree Frog.
The below is a sample of the shots.  I needed several different angles and positions. Now I will gather up my photos and start drawing.  I start with realist but I end of with whimsical. It's a style that I enjoy the most.

Have a froggie day!

I have recovered...Dragonfly Digital Mixed Media

Tuesday, November 20, 2012
Last weekend's show is over and now it's time to get back to work.  There's a studio to pickup, photo files to organize, and a major re-do to my Etsy site.
It's been a white since I've had a destash as large as I have in mind for Etsy.  So the quicker I get the photos done, the quicker the jewelry finds new homes...then the more room I have in my studio. It's a win-win situation for everyone.

The above is a test for a new digital mixed media series.  I've decided to work in a square format.  The pieces will be 8x8, matted to fit a 12x12 frame. It's something a bit different but oh my, they do they look fabulous on a wall.  Four made into a square or three over a couch makes a room.  Along with everything else I'm working on, this series is on the top of the list.

Square frames used to be more custom.  Now, it's easy peasy because most stores carry them in stock.

Ok it's back to To-Do list is getting longer and longer.

Later Gators,

It's a busy, busy digital art...Fine Art Friday

Friday, November 16, 2012
Just about finished packing for the show...I'm now ready for a busy weekend.  Thought I'd post one of my pieces from series I'm working on.

Later Gators,

The last of my summer garden...last show of the show of the season...

Thursday, November 15, 2012
It's one of those bittersweet days...the beauty of the day combined with knowing that winter is right around the corner.  The above is from my flower garden.  I've been playing with my 50mm lens and I should be getting ready for:
It's our first and only show of the season!  Bob will be showing his baskets, I will be bringing out a lot of paintings but no digital yet.  It's also the last time I will be showing jewelry.  I didn't realize just how big of an inventory I have in huge actually. So I will be doing a huge studio sale on Etsy soon.

These are some watercolor & ink minis (5x7's) I've been working on for the show.  They are great for stocking stuffers and room groupings.

Ok...back to bagging the mini!

Have a great weekend,

Drive lens test

Wednesday, November 14, 2012
Just stopping by for a few moments...
The above was a test photo of a new it, it suits my photography style.  This is Mouse, my cat. She is a feral cat from Austin, Texas we brought back to Indiana.  She was helping by being my test model. Which was just fine until I brought out the flash. Ooops, that didn't set well.

Oh, the's my AF-S Nikkor 50mm f/1.8G.  Not a pricey lens but one that really works for me.  It's my everyday lens, one that is normally on my camera. Yes, I am a Nikon Cannon for me. :-)

Later Gators,

Happy World Kindness Day

I'll be back in a couple of days...lots of stuff happening...but I'm getting ready for my first and only show of the season.

Later Gators,

New Digital Design...more cats...where I'm headed in my business

Saturday, November 10, 2012
I've been busy at the computer again and it's still surprise there.
The last couple of weeks have been spent doing research...doing lots of reading...calling several old friends.  The time has come to re-start my business. Glass is out of the picture so 2-D is where I'm headed.  Now it's all the behind the scenes work that I've got to get done.  You business cards, update the blog, redo the website, and all the other fu-fu online stuff.  It's got to get done.

Then, for me, it's a redo of my photo files, learning my new printer, working with my new camera, and figuring out a shipping system.  The biggie, is figuring out a system for storage.  I don't have a lot of room currently and my organizational skills have been almost maxed it will be a big destash and another cleanout...then another destash.

I've been reluctant to pack up, storage, and/or destash my glass studio. Why? I don't want to give it up but my elbows won't take it any longer.  I also know if I move into 2-D (digital, photography, painting, etc, etc) mixed media, I don't have enough time in the day.  I don't want to give up jewelry, but the number of hours in the day is pushing me towards that, at least for right now.

So...the end result is...I've got a lot of work to do that I really don't want to do. :-D It's also a change that there's no going back...forward on!!!!

Now...I'm off to get some chores done and back to work with me...

Have a happy, creative day!

Another Experiment...a mix of drawing, watercolor, photography, & digital art

Thursday, November 08, 2012

The above was another far, so good. I'm learning as I go and figuring out a long term direction as well. day has been productive so far, lots of chores done.  More to do but hey, it's gotta get done. It seems that I don't have enough hours in the the day to get everything done. Oh well, a few hours is better than no hours at all.

Later Gators,

Pen & Ink with Watercolor...Now digital...New Work

Wednesday, November 07, 2012

OK...this was an experiment, I've been working on a lot of those lately.  It started with a simple pen & ink drawing that I added some watercolor to. Photographed it and then added some photoshop magic.

This is more of a drive by post...I stayed up too late watching election returns, so I had to watch Obama's speech from Chicago.  So I'm doing mostly mindless chores, they have to get done.

Have a happy, creative day!!

Election Day...Digital Mixed Media Flower Series...I'm still at it...

Tuesday, November 06, 2012
I'm still at it...this series is beginning to take life of it's own.  I've also got to figure out how to balance my monitor, because it look soooo much better in person than on the screen.

Well, it's Election Day...I'm hoping my fellow Americans do me proud and go VOTE!  This is a landmark, milestone will go down in history because it has the potential to change history.

I voted I'm spending my day working on some new art pieces but I will be spending my evening in front of the TV watching the returns roll in.

Backyard Views...a mix of digital and watercolor

Backyard Views...a mix of photography, watercolor, & digital

Decisions, decisions, decisions....isn't that the sign of the times.  Anyway, the last couple of days, I've been working on a plan of action for my business.  Since you all know that glass is moving on and out of my live...I won't bore you with the details on that front. It's the 'what's next' that I've been working on.

Hands with photography and watercolor on the list.  I'm looking more mixed media work and maybe 3-D painting, like boxes. I'm also thinking about silk painting.  Just random thoughts here.

Most of the decisions will be made by the amount of space I have in the studio.  Since the studio has been moved home, space has been a challenge.  My organizational skills have gotten much better. Having a studio at home, I've found it's the best decision that we made.  Time isn't my friend...too much to do and not enough hours in the day.  It gained me almost two hours a day since I'm not driving.

Have a great Sunday...I'm off...

New Digital Flower Series...Fine Art Friday

Friday, November 02, 2012
I'm in a bit of a hurry today...I've got to finish up on a series so that I can send it out to print...Bob just got home from Boston...the list goes on and on.
The above is part of a new series that I'm working on. I like where it's going.  Hopefully, there will be more to show later.
Ok...have a great weekend!!!
