A Painting a Day - 10 Day Challenge...Day 6 & 7...

Thursday, February 28, 2013

The above is day mixed media.  It is mostly digital watercolor, it was painted like I would paint traditional watercolor on Yupo.

The above is day also is digital mixed media.  Parts of the work started out as work painted with Turner Acryl Gouache, then layered into the digital piece.

Guess's snowing again.

Punxsutawney Phil, I am sooooo disappointed in you…you have been downgraded to rodent.  I have to admit, the snow is beautiful though…

Day mixed media...purple orchid

Tuesday, February 26, 2013

This is day 5 of the Painting a Day Challenge, a purple orchid.  I wanted the piece to look like a watercolor, it does but it was painful to digitally paint for me.  I've got a couple more that I want to do in the series because it is a learning curve for me.  After that...well, I may go back to painting watercolor in the traditional way.  With a brush and paint on paper.

Day Digital Mixed Media

Monday, February 25, 2013

This is day 4 of the Painting a Day Challenge. This challenge is's for any medium and it makes me push myself.  My theme of the week is color.
Bob and I have been working in the garage.  The glass studio is just about packed up.  We are dropping of the ventilation today, then that's just about it.
The next step is to move everything out, which is almost done too.  Now it's mostly cleaning and prep work to get ready for the painters. There is a lot of patch work for them to do sooooo, I'm beating on two weekends worth of work.
The end result is that I'm moving my office back down stairs.  Then taking the garage at my painting and photography studio.  It's also a very good reason for Spring cleaning...early but it works for me.

New Mixed Digital Media challenge...

Saturday, February 23, 2013
Yes, I've been busy, busy...just working away.  I've only been dancing on a head of a pin with is amazing art form.  It is wide open in regards to creative projects. I just got a copy of Corel Painter 12...yay, yay, yay!!!
Queen Duck

I also just started a new challenge, A Painting A Day-10 Day Challenge, that is being sponsored by Jane Spakowsky.  She is a fabulous mixed media artist.   This challenge is only 10 days, any pushes me to create.  Caryn Strauss-Smith, another fabulous artist, recommended it. I glad I did.
Magick Mouse

The above is Day 2 of the challenge.  Magick Mouse is a rough draft of a new MoonWorld critter.  This was a bit more interesting for me to do.  It was the first time I've totally used a graphics tablet to draw from beginning to end.  It was a learning curve.
Well nothing like starting a new project with Mercury in Retrograde.  It started today, 2/23, and will be happening until 3/17.

Project 52...Digital Mixed Media

Monday, February 11, 2013

Yay…she’s done…Bird Queen.
Don't let anyone determine your mood!
Choose happiness with a dash of sparkle!!!!

It’s been a looooooong transition from glass and jewelry to mixed media.  Finally after all these months and months and months, I’ve come to a point that I’m ready to dusting off the ol’Etsy shoppe.   Now it’s also a time for a re-do…shipping has changed, what I’m selling has change.  Oh well, I’ll be doing a lot of writing soon.

Fine Art mixed face, again

Friday, February 08, 2013
Yay!  I finally have a Friday post!!!!
The Stare

I've been spending so much time on digital, I haven't done much with mixed media for a while.  It's been sitting on my desk, staring at me for the last couple of days.  So it was time to finish it!
That's it, I'm was a really long day and I'm going to retire to my nice warm bed and read!
Later Gators,

Java digital mixed media series

Thursday, February 07, 2013
I just looked at the weather forecast for the next week or so.  Yay!!!!  NO SNOW!  We are beginning to get in the 40’s with dashes of sunshine, even hours of sunshine.
First in my Java series...Winged Heart Mug

Weather and sunshine makes a huge impact on my art.  I can tell when spring is in the air...I get happy, my work gets happy....all is right with the world.

The above is the first (of hopefully many) of a new series called Java.  It's one that I'm really excited about.  It's a mix of watercolor, digital painting, and photography.

Ok...gotta run, it's time to leave for my handbuilding clay class.  I can't wait to see what the kiln fairy left for me.

What I've been working mixed media...

Monday, February 04, 2013

I'm still working with digital mixed media, I doubt I will be stopping anytime soon.  I love it!!!!  Yes, it's a huge learning curve but the options are limitless.

The above is from a very old photo that I also did a watercolor from.  It's actually several photos layered on top of each other so that I didn't paint it too tight. I merged the watercolor and photos, then did the digital painting.  Then I did some digital enhancements.  I learned a great deal from this piece, which makes the creating even more fun.
Not as intense but enjoyable to create.  Still, this is a direction in my work that I'm excited to be doing.

I've still got to finish building my mini still life photo studio.  It's just about done, I've still got to tweak the lighting.

Project 52...adventures in digital mixed media & Corel Painter

Sunday, February 03, 2013
First  try at Corel Painter

Second try at Corel Painter

Old school or digital, I’m still in the whimsical mode.  That’s OK, I’m finding that digital is a medium that is worth the time and effort to teach myself.  The above is part of my ‘Project 52’ challenge.
On a side note…
I’m in the mist of testing paper for printing my work.  That has turned into a major undertaking. I’m starting out with all archival but there’s 100’s of paper types….from glossy to luster to rag and the list goes on and on.

How my paper testing started is because a couple of months ago, I sent off some work to be printed.  Sure they did a great job but…it took weeks. Then after I received the work, I wished I would have had it printed on a luster instead of a matte.  So it was printer research…I decided with an Epson Artisan 1430. The ‘ink’ is dye based and Epson’s Claria Hi-Definition ‘inks’ are smudge, scratch, and water resistance. It’s also a wide format for larger work. Epson’s prints are also fabulous for my photography.

The last couple of weeks, I've been working with several people on Facebook on a "Peace Out Project."

The above are images that I've created for the project.
