2015...the year of Wonders and Wanders...

Wednesday, December 31, 2014
Art changes the world, one step at a time.  I’ve said this many times, to many people over the many years of my life.  Some people roll their eyes, some just snicker, some people give me the glazed lizard eye but a few will ask why.
Art sparks our individual humanity and creativity at the same time it touches our culture and society.  It’s what keeps pushing forward to progress into the realm of thinking for us instead of running with the pack.   Impressions, visual images, and expressions of sound or movement all have a causal effect on humans.  How we express our ‘sameness’ at the same time celebrate our ‘diversity’.
Something small, such as a smile and making eye contact with a stranger can change a person’s day. A piece art that is a scene or experienced by many can have a profound effect.  Color alone can have a causal effect on our mood, so a piece of art could do what?  And to who, the viewer or the artists?  I don’t fully know but I plan to find out.

The last couple of years, I’ve tried many different challenges.  Some were photography, some paintings, or some visual journaling.  Most were creative, some form or another, but a couple the typical New Year’s resolution sort of challenge.   Some were 365 day, some were 52 week, and a couple where 30 day.  There was one that I adored, a 13 day, a painting a day.  I had the time and the want to make it successful.  It was for me.  Not only did I complete the challenge, I push myself to create in a focused committed manner.
This year, I’ve decided to try it again.    A 365 day challenge for 2015….am I biting off more than I can crew, maybe.  Maybe not, because it’s anything that is creative and doesn’t have to be either a masterpiece nor finished.  There are many projects that take me days to complete, that’s ok. I’m not in the mood to make 2015 a year of running from one project to another but working on my own artwork and photography..
That was the theme of 2014…the theme of 2015 is wanders and wonders.
Goodbye 2014…hell yeah…I made it, I survived another year.  2015 here I come…another 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, and 3,153,600 seconds of wanders and wonders….there is just so much more to see…
Cya, next year....

I'm stilling working out the kinks for this mobile blogging adventure that I'm on.  I'm thinking the more I do it, the easier it will become.  Well that's what I'm telling myself.  It's not that the blogging is difficult, it's figuring out how how this app works and making sure that I have my keyboard charged.  Yeah, I's the little details that will make or break this adventure.

Testing out the Blogger app

Sunday, December 28, 2014

I've decided that I miss blogging enough to figure out how to keep up.  So I'm trying out a new idea, for me, blogging via iPhone.  I pulled out a bluetooth keyboard to make typing easier.  Again, if you haven't already heard it before, I love my iPhone 6 plus.

Late as always...excuses

I'm running late....again.  It seems that I have the best intentions but not enough time to blog any more.  I keep on saying that there's not enough hours in the day but that's an excuse.  It's about making time if it matters.

Going into from the last couple of weeks...bluebird, deer, hawk, blue jay...

Monday, November 24, 2014

It's been a busy last couple of weeks...mostly I've been in the studio or out shooting photos before it gets too chilly.  Well, it's now just about too cold for me to go out tramping out in the woods now.  It's still warm enough for a couple of hours but not all day.

I miss blogging but for some reason I get caught up on Facebook. Sometimes I wish there were more hours in the day...

Sketchbook...Watercolor Grounds (Golden and QoR), Stathmore Windpower sketchbook, & Travel Palettes

Saturday, September 20, 2014

Every couple of months I feel the need to push my skill base a bit further...that's what pushes me into working in my sketchbook more.  The above an old book that I've gessoed but this time I used Golden's Absorbent Ground.  It was one coat only and I'm excited to used it on some cradled panels.  I actually like it better than Daniel Smith's.  I've got several panels already set up with Golden's QoR and I'm expecting it to be even better.  The surface is smoother but the test in the painting...

The above is a sketchbook by Stathmore...Windpowder.  It's one of my favorites. Great paper, great size, and great price.

I'm testing out some new travel palettes....the VitaCarry is filled with QoR watercolors and the slots are much deeper.  It's winning.

Have a great weekend...

Fall is my favorite time of year...and it's beginning to look a like it will be here soon.

These are a few photos of the sights in my neck of the woods...

This week I put out the bird feeders and got a visitor...

Just a quickie post of the sights of my week...

9/11/01, not forgotten...

Every year, I tried to create an image, art piece, or sketch to remember 9-11...

I Have Not Forgotten...

Photography, textures, and Photoshop...word prompts

Thursday, September 04, 2014
Teaching myself how to navigate in Photoshop has been a challenge.  It's such a huge, complex piece of software that I doubt I will live long enough to ever master it.  I'll be happy if I can speed up my workflow by knowing where to go for what instead of looking in book.

I've started to use word prompts to help myself work with a visual image that evokes either an emotion or a state of being. Maybe even a situation.  Like above, the photo was shot right before a storm.

Last Days of Summer
The above photo of a yellow daisy was not as fresh and perky that I typically like but summer is almost over.  It's that vesper time between summer and fall.

Fey Ring
The above's prompt was 'dreamy'...I like how it turned out.

I was going for 'creepy'...I think I nailed it.  I don't think that creepy is my thang but I learned a lot with this image.

Have a great day!!!

World ART DROP Day...Sept 2nd

Monday, September 01, 2014

This is really rather simple...World Art Drop Day was started by Jake Parker.  One day a year, anyone that creates can drop a piece of art and let people know where it is....then poof, it's done.  That's not all of it but close.

Here's the official "Here's how it works:
  • Draw a picture and hide it somewhere.
  • Take a photo of either the art or the hiding spot or a combination of both.
  • Post the image, the city you dropped it in, and a hint on any social media of your choice. Be sure to included the hashtag: #artdropday
  • Then move on, hoping someone finds it. OR hang around and meet your new friend."

Here's the art:

Here's the clues where:

There is also some whimsical little pieces at Danville Center-Township Public Library.  These will be given out the in Youth's a library and it's for the kids.

If you do pick up some art...hashtag it with #artdropday

Toads are interesting...I ever realized just how much they look like gargoyles, sans wings and big ears.

Thistles, Butterflies, and and watercolor

Thursday, August 28, 2014

I've been out driving around looking for you can tell from above, I hit the motherload.  I think I've got enough images now to do a series this winter.

This is a watercolor cat I did from a friend's photo.  I don't work from photos every often and never from somebody else work.  If I know I'm going to paint from a photo, typically I do a quick sketch and then take the photo myself.  Anyway, it was a good learning experience for me.

World Art Drop Day...clues

Wednesday, August 27, 2014

You will see this a couple more times this week...I want to make sure clues get out to the local peeps.

Big Sky Sort of digital piece and not getting everything you want

I was out and about yesterday looking for thistle...yep, again.  I'm working on a thistle series so I'm betting this is going to be a forever and ever project.  Anyway, I turned around and poof...I heard thunder and saw the above sight.  I was lucky, my camera was in my hands.  It didn't last very long.  It looks like a pop up storm happened and broke apart as soon as it formed.  I wish I would of gotten the lightening as well but you can't have everything.

The above is a new digital piece.  I haven't decided what I'm doing with this one.  I'd really like it the way it is but I'd also like to paint it.  It would make a rockin' mixed media piece. lots to get done today!

Out and About...gathering photos for this winter...

Monday, August 25, 2014
This summer I've made it a priority to gather up photos for winter. Last year I didn't and I was sorry. Here's a few that are in my 'to be painted' image file. Just in case the Farmer's Almanac is correct, it's also time to start working on my bird feeders.

Here's a teaser...I've got a huge project that I'm working on for Danville's Scarecrow Festival. More later on this one...

That's it for me today...back to working on crows...
